The Campbell Lab engages with community partners in mosquito control and public health providing consultations and trainings on using open source tools to organize and visualize mosquito trap and sentinel chicken collections for improved Integrated Mosquito Management (IMM).

The Campbell Lab provides interdisciplinary GIS training to support data-driven mosquito surveillance and control. We offer an open-access Introduction to QGIS for Mosquito Control course targeted for mosquito control professionals, focused on importing, mapping, and visualizing mosquito trap data using free, open-source software. Course materials, including installation guides, example datasets, and step-by-step tutorials, are freely available through UF/IFAS Extension (course website)

This training is part of broader training development efforts led by Dr. Campbell as co–Project Director of the Mosquito BEACONS (Biodiversity Enhancement and Control of Non-native Species) Working Group, which addresses non-native and invasive mosquito species across the southern United States and Puerto Rico.

Needs identified through regional surveys of mosquito control programs have guided the development of multistate GIS workshops and complementary training in mosquito taxonomy, bionomics, and integrated pest management. Thus far, workshops have included >250 participants. These efforts are supported by the USDA Southern IPM Institute (2021–2025) and the CDC Gulf South Vector Training Center
