Data Organization and Visualization

The Campbell Lab engages with community partners in mosquito control and public health providing consultations and trainings on using open source tools to organize and visualize mosquito trap and sentinel chicken collections for improved control.

Dodd Short Courses & Geographic Information Systems Workshops

QGIS is an open source and free geographic information systems (GIS) program. For two years in a row, the Campbell Lab has offered an Introduction to QGIS training course for mosquito control district personnel focused importing and mapping mosquito trap data. Click on the Learn More button to navigate to the course data and materials freely available through IFAS UF Extension. These materials provide installation instructions, example data, and step-by-step instructions, including software screen shots used in the course.

The Mosquito BEACONS Working Group

Dr. Campbell serves as co-Project Director of the Mosquito BEACONS (Biodiversity Enhancement and Control of Non-native Species) Working Group, focused on facilitating communication regarding non-native mosquito species across the southern US, prioritizing training for community partners and the general public, and identifying shared research priorities.

As part of this project, the Campbell Lab has taught multiple geographic information systems workshops as part of a multidisciplinary training curriculum focused on monitoring, identifying, mapping, and IPM strategies for medically important non-native and invasive mosquito species.

The Mosquito BEACONS Working Group is in its 4th year and is funded through the Southern IPM Center through the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture Crop Protection and Pest Management Regional Coordination Program.
