ABOUT US

The Campbell lab investigates the spatiotemporal ecology of vector borne and zoonotic disease systems with the environment across multiple scales. We have a strong focus on medically important arthropod vectors, and work to quantify and predict distributions, abundances, and phenology of vector species and disease system components across dynamic environmental conditions. We use a variety of tools to investigate these questions, including geographic information systems, remotely-sensed satellite imagery, and data science approaches to work with large data sets. We draw from analytical methods and theory developed in the fields of distributional ecology, disease ecology, and biodiversity science. Our work is primarily computational, synthesizing data from disparate sources to examine questions at scales that cannot be investigated using individual field studies. We are interdisciplinary, incorporating biological and ecological knowledge about vector borne and zoonotic disease systems with quantitative spatiotemporal modeling approaches and remotely-sensed environmental data.
